Armstrong (6-4, 248) primarily plays on the interior of the defensive line. He is an active run defender, with quickness and good technique. He has good stop-start ability, as well as a good ability to bend around the corner. Armstrong has to prove he can maintain his bend as he gets into his sets, as he lacks consistent bend off the snap and has short arms. He has a burst of speed in transition, but needs to develop more pass-rushing moves to go along with his pass-rushing skill set.

In July of 2017, Armstrong was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, public intoxication and trespassing.

Dorance Armstrong was born in Olathe, Kansas. He went to high school at the Houstonian High School in Houston, Texas. His career as a defensive end ended with 11 total sacks for his final two seasons at Houstonian.

Dorance experienced difficulty as a child. He was diagnosed with spina bifida as an infant.

The player was on the Iowa State football team from 2011 to 2016. While there, he was a defensive end and a safety for the Cyclones. During his time there, he registered 101 total tackles and 8.5 sacks during his last season. He then switched to the defensive line to end his career, registering 21 tackles for a loss.
