“I was in ninth grade. I had a JV team and we were the underdog going against the big schools. I was 5-11, 5-12 as an undersized freshman in high school. After every game I would get in my mind I was the worst player out there. I wasn’t able to keep that in the back of my mind. I continued to play, and as the season went on I started getting better and doing what I was supposed to do, which was playing football.

Why he went to the University of Georgia

Ledbetter, the son of former University of Georgia football player Ervin Ledbetter, grew up a fan of the program.

“I watched when there was nothing to cheer for,” Ledbetter told the Charlotte Observer. “When I was little, we had a new coach come in and he put us on the map. That year, we had a lot of first-year players on the team and we got the chance to show what we could do.

“After that year, Georgia was at the bottom of the rankings, but we went to the SEC Championship and we had a chance to win the whole thing. From then on, I realized what being a Bulldog was all about.”

After high school, he committed to the University of Georgia and played three seasons on the varsity team.
