The New Orleans Saints rallied around coach Jim Mora, and after three consecutive winning seasons, including a spot in the playoffs in 1979, the Saints made the postseason for the first time in 1981. New Orleans made their first and only Super Bowl during that season (they lost to the defending champion San Francisco 49ers). In 1985, Mora sacked quarterback Jim Everett in a controversial move; Everett was subsequently taken from the field on a stretcher. The 1986 NFL draft saw New Orleans draft Heisman Trophy-winning running back George Rogers.
